The 6th edition of Dance Life Festival, held in July 2025, marked a milestone year for Kenya’s leading contemporary dance platform. This year’s program featured the most internationally diverse artist line-up to date, with live performances, film, and collaborations from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, the DRC, Mali, South Africa, Switzerland, Germany, and Denmark.
As always, inclusion remained a central focus. The program featured mixed-ability performances, with dancers with and without disabilities sharing the stage. It also continued to spotlight the work of women choreographers and youth performers, reinforcing Dance Life Festival’s reputation as an inclusive and boundary-pushing platform.
Alongside the mainstage shows at the Kenya National Theatre, this year’s Festival featured a range of community-based workshops in Kibera, Kayole, Kangemi, and Industrial Area, as well as a public street performance in Nairobi’s Central Business District. These activities made contemporary dance more accessible to new audiences and created space for dialogue and exchange beyond the theatre walls.
The Festival was made possible through the generous support of a wide network of partners and collaborators, including Africalia, Goethe-Institut, TICAH, Urgent Africa, Pro Helvetia, Artzone Studios, iN Nairobi Magazine, and the City of Basel.
With more than six editions behind it, Dance Life Festival continues to grow as a key meeting point for dancers, choreographers, and audiences across East Africa and beyond.
