ABOUT US
Upstage is officially registered in Kenya as a nonprofit organization with a bold mission: to champion inclusive platforms for artistic expression in East Africa.
We believe that with the right investments, creative and cultural industries can help eliminate urban poverty while driving social change in East Africa.
We are deliberately inclusive; while all creatives who would benefit from our programs are welcome, the program is designed to benefit people that have historically been excluded from the creative economy in East Africa; specifically: people with disabilities, women, children, senior citizens, and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds (with a focus on youth).
Through our programs, we aim to make meaningful contributions to the advancement of SDG 1 (No poverty), SDG 5 (Gender equality), SDG 8 (Decent work and economic growth), and SDG 10 (Reduced inequalities).
VISION & MISSION
OUR VISION
Our long-term vision is to drive industry-level changes towards decent work and inclusion in East Africa's creative economy.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to champion inclusive platforms for artistic expression in East Africa.
THEORY OF CHANGE
For artists from all backgrounds to access decent work (our vision), they must:
(i) receive quality training and capacity building,
(ii) produce engaging artistic work that addresses global/human issues, and
(iii) gain access to platforms that showcase their work and grow their audiences.
Upstage pursues this theory of change through our programs.
